Poudre Canyon Quilt Show

This years quilt show was done a little differently. Normally we have a big craft fair along with the quilt show, but since the new mill levy passed and we are getting a new fire station/community center, our old community center is in the process of being torn down. Therefore, it was decided to do a community garage sale, and a smaller quilt show with just the quilters from the canyon.

With fewer participants, the show was a little smaller this year, but not by much! Look at all these lovely quilts!

i was able to enter a few doll quilts from the ALQS swap, along with Berdena's 90th birthday quilt (you can see them up at the front of the chapel). I always give my quilts away and therefore, dont normally have any to show, so it was nice to have a few to share this year! I included a few detailed shots of some quilts that stood out to me...enjoy the pics......

and here is a shot of jordyn being silly with her cousins after a day fishing with grandpa...pardon the grain of the photo, but i didnt realize my ISO was set so high when i ran out to take it :(

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!

Its Finally Finished!

Well, here it is...Berdenas 90th birthday quilt, finally finished! (and shes only 91 1/2) :) She was pretty excited and surprised to see it today, and im soooo happy its done. I finished the binding very late last night, and justin was anxious to get it out of the house before one of us spilled something on it :)

As mentioned before, its a double sided quilt (per her request), she wishes to hang it on the wall and be able to turn it over now and again...so ive included a few photos to give you an idea of both sides.

I appreciate all of the suggestions for quilting it, but in the end, since i didnt have the right foot for my machine to do meandering(and didnt want to learn on this particular quilt), i decided to throw caution to the wind and strait stitch across the sashing. Its not quite as strait as i would like, and since it isnt square, there are a few wandering sections, but for the most part it worked out rather well. It was definitely worth it to see the look on her face, she was thrilled and immediately sat down to enjoy all the individual squares.

It was another beautiful day up here, so we decided to go for an adventure out on the island, and then jordyn went for a swim. She likes to parade around in her froggie towel, and wears it like a cape.

Also, on another good note, we were able to salvage a few poles and a side wall to make this much smaller shade awning from the original. So, after all...not a total loss, and we will have lots of uses for this one, as it is smaller and easier to move around.

Happy Weekend Everyone!~

Quilt Progress...

This is what ive been working on for the last few days, which is why its been kind of quiet around here...

Jordyn's great grandma Berdena turned 90 in November 2007 (thats right...im a little behind), and these quilt squares were sent to her from family and friends. After her birthday, she held on to the blocks for about a year to show off to folks, but they were given to me last year in September. I was waiting for a few squares from folks, but alas, life got too hectic for them, so i finally made them instead. Anyways, i really want to finish this project, so i set a deadline for myself...Mother's Day. Ive really been cranking along, and now i have the quilt sandwiched and ready for quilting. Here is the tough part...how to quilt it! It has a front and back (per Berdena's request), and i lined them up as best as i could, but since none of the blocks are totally square, im sure they arent perfect...so stitch in the ditch would be tough. Also, one side of the quilt has photographs on it, so i cant really quilt inside those either. Suggestions are totally welcome...but remember, im machine quilting it(for time reasons), and i cant FMQ on my machine...so it has to be something simple. I think the sashing really pulls the squares together, and i used the easy the sashing method from this site. I ended up making 8 blocks for the quilt...some i posted earlier, but these three were the lastest ones...

So, thats about it over here! Oh, the drawing for my 200th post giveaway will be tomorrow...so stay tuned! :)
Happy Sunday!

Over the River and Thru the Woods....

To the post office i went...to mail off my ALQS miniature to ___?_____! Of course, its a secret, so i wont let the cat out of the bag till my receivers package arrives :)
Anyways, im sure by the sneak peeks i gave over the last few weeks, that it was pretty obvious what the quilt looked like, but here it is again..."Wonky Pineapple Blues", being modeled on our glorious woodpile! Its 20 X 20, and was paper pieced with a washable leave in paper (that makes the quilt a little stiffer, and nice for hanging). I also finished and mailed out the Halloween table runners to my sisters in California, so that should be a nice surprise for them (i can mention them here, because they never read my blog :)
And lastly, i sent out a little "thank you" to Anne, for her generous gift of I-spy fabrics a while back. Sorry it took me soooo long to get it out to you Anne, what can i say...im lame. Anyways, now that all my latest deadlines are met, i can relax this weekend...which is great because we have a full weekend of Halloween fun planned, including a kids party at the VFW, and Boo at the Zoo, which i am quite excited about!

So stay tuned...

Birthday Memory Quilt

Here are the squares we collected for Berdena's 90th bday Memory Quilt. (Of course, she turns 91 in November, but you know how it goes...getting folks to finish their square is like herding cats). There are still two blocks on the way (supposedly), and then i will make a dedication block to have an equal number of squares. She wants a wall hanging, with two sides, so she can flip it over from time to time...so i will have 16 on front and 16 on back.(she has very limited wall space, and doesnt want it to go on her bed). I purchased a dark blue batik for the sashing...so im almost ready to get started on it.
We had a luncheon yesterday with the family, so Berdena brought out her squares to share with them...thats how i was finally able to get this shot :) She has been taking them everywhere with her to share with friends and family, but she is anxious to see them sewn together, so now they are in my possession. Stay tuned for updates!
In the meantime, here is a shot of Jordyn enjoying all the yummy desserts the family made!
