First Day of School!
Hooray...today was the first day of school! Lots of school supplies, new clothes, brand new lunch box and backpack, friends returning from summer vacation...how could you not be excited!!!
Jordyn has a very small class this year, with only 7 kids in it, so they should get a lot of one on one time...however, if the numbers keep dropping, it does worry me that they could try to close the school again. Fingers crossed some more families move up to the mountains to eliminate that! :)
After school, we celebrated the first day back by going for an ice cream cone...pecan praline and chocolate mint chip....Yum!
And this is what happens to Jordyn with a sugar high...WATCH OUT...whatever you do...dont make eye contact!!! :)

End of Summer Play Date ~
I cant believe summer is over...where did the time go? This has been one wild and weird summer for sure...the fires sort of threw us all for a loop, so to celebrate the end of summer with a bang, we decided to have a big play date at the house with a bunch of jordyns friends from school.
They played for hours and hours, and while they played, the moms got to relax, have a few drinks and visit! It was a great time for everyone!
The weather wasnt the best, but after a while the sun tried to come out and we took that opportunity to jump in the river...
After about 8 hours of fun, several melt downs from the little ones, and lots of hot dogs, we called it a day. What a memorable afternoon...i hope everyone had as much fun as we did!
Meanwhile, on the quilting front, i almost finished Jordyn's quilt top for her room. Several months ago we painted and redecorated her room. Jordyn got to pick the colors, and she chose pale pink and pale orange...and since i couldnt find a matching comforter, i decided to just make her one. I used the bento box pattern, and i love the way it turned out so far. Ill probably put a border on it, and then send it off to be quilted.
Im participating in another swap on about.com, its a birthday swap, which means each person is designated a month to receive blocks from all the other participants, but instead of doing 12 months, we are doing 6, so each person makes two blocks each month for the "birthday" person. Miss August chose this block in bright batiks, so this is what i made. What a colorful quilt she will have! Cant wait till my month, which is December! :)

Toothless!
Jordyn went to Grandpa Frank and Grandma Pats to go fishing and have a sleepover...but while she was there, she was distracted by a pesky front tooth...which she then decided to pull...so now she is missing both front teeth :) Toothless Jordyn!

A Fun Summer Day!
It was a perfect summer day, filled with all kinds of pleasant surprises. Besides getting to sleep in and spend the morning watching Scooby-Doo, Jordyn got to meet Polly Ann, a friendly mule, who then gave her a little ride!
Some of the cousins were up for a luncheon at LeAnns place, including Gene and Val, who were planning to do some riding later, so they had their mules with them...which meant, we got to meet them...but even cooler, Jordyn got to ride them :)
Gene, walked them around the yard a few times, and Jordyn was absolutely thrilled! She was just asking me the other day if we could go to Lee Martinez farm again soon to go riding, so this was an unexpected, but special treat!
Check her out, shes a natural...unlike her mom, whos never been on a horse, and is not really thrilled at the idea of learning, but i suppose sometime i should give it a go :)
After enjoying shrimp leftovers from LeAnns luncheon, we went back down to the house. I guess Jordyn decided it was time for her loose tooth to come out, so while i was catching up on the Olympics....USA WOMENS SOCCER took the GOLD!!! YES!!!...Jordyn pulled her front tooth! She was so cute...she came out with a bloody mouth, tooth in hand, victorious at doing it all on her own! Way to go sweetheart, i hope the tooth fairy brings you something special :)
But before the sun sets, its time for a light saber battle out in the meadow! Capes were optional, but Jordyn insisted! :)

Jordyn uses the force and takes down her opponent in one sweeping blow to the side!
Another victorious battle!

Happy 90th Birthday Great Grandma Anita ~
We celebrated Anitas 90th birthday on Saturday, and family and friends traveled near and far to be with her on her big day!
We put together a surprise birthday quilt for her...each family member was given matching fabric to use in a quilt square, and then they returned those squares to me to put together into a quilt. Pat and Jaimie did the quilting, and then i finished the binding. It came together quite beautifully in spite of the road bumps we had along the way, and i think its safe to say, she loved it!
Heres a close up of the square from our family...i had a few paper piecing issues, but it was nothing a few buttons couldnt fix :)

There was delicious barbecue, music, and good times!
We played bocce, volleyball, more bocce...and we even had a few light saber battles!
