Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Hope everyone has a fabulous Saint Patrick's Day! Be sure to drink lots of green beer and eat yummy corned beef & cabbage :)

We had a great weekend with lots of visitors, including this coyote! My cousin came up for a few days, and snapped this shot when she arrived...he was hanging out in our driveway, ready to greet her :) I stole this shot from her blog...but there are a few more photos there if you want to check it out. Mostly we power lounged, but there was also some creative work going on too...

For example, this dance belt that i made Jordyn...sorry for the blurry shot...she was busy spinning :) I still want to add some bling to it...perhaps some shiny coins, or some jingly bells...but for the most part its complete.

I also finished one of the February BOM squares from Ellies website...it didnt come out that great, im still learning as far as applique goes, and these hearts came out a bit crooked, but i have two more to make, so i imagine with more practice, my skills will improve :)
Cheers~

Lord of the Flies ~

Book One of the 1% Well Read Challenge: Lord of the Flies by William Golding
I had a hard time getting into this book and was nearly halfway thru when it finally caught my interest.(i was about to give up, but its such a short book, and a "classic", that i trudged on). Not sure if it was the writing style, or the story itself, but it did finally pick up and become exciting. Against many other reviews, i found Golding's descriptive detail a little tiresome and windy...and often found my mind wandering when he rambled on in this way. (perhaps its my short attention span...who knows :)
I did find myself wondering what the outcome would have been, had they been a bunch of girls on the island instead. It was only too obvious what was going to happen...given a bunch of prepubescent boys running wild on an island...sad, but not surprising. It would be interesting to see how a bunch of girls would have fared in the same situation.
Im sad to say, that once the kids started to turn savage, i finally became interested in the story. Up until that point, it seems all the kids were busy picking on the lazy "fat" kid, Piggy...and i didnt care for their cruelty...but i suppose that was all part of the story and the symbolism.
In the end, im glad i finally read this book, though i will happily pass it on, with no plans to ever read it again.

Not much to show on the quilting arena. Im working on a memory quilt for Jordyn's Great Grandma, and unfortunately, not all of the family members read the instructions right, so i am now stuck with 7 squares that are 1/2" to small, so i will have to make borders for all of those. I also had to square up the rest of the squares, as anyone who has worked with quilts sewn in many different hands, knows how different they can all be. But once the new borders are on, i can continue...just nothing worth photographing...so i leave you with something i believe is worth photographing...Jordyn and Daddy playing on the ice ~

Have a Fabulous Weekend!

1% Well Read Challenge

Okay, ive watched a few bloggers participate in this, so i thought id sign up for the second round.
The goal of this challenge is to read 10 books in 10 months from the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list.(which turns out to be about 1%).
The list is being updated with more books, but here it is if you'd like to check it out. Since the list is being updated, there are 3 choices for the challenge...read 10 books from the old list (March-December), read 10 books from the new list (March-December), or read 13 from the two lists combined (March 1, 2009 - March 31,2010). Ive chosen the last one, as i prefer a bigger selection of books to read from :)
If youre interested in signing up, click on this link :)
Have fun, and hope to see you there!

More I-Spy Fun!

Not much quilting to show right now, as im trying to prep some applique, and it seems to be taking forever! I did sign up for another I-Spy fabric swap on about.com, and these are the fabrics i ordered. Not sure if the Flintstone fabric will work, the characters are much larger than i expected, so i would have to fussy cut...and the bottom fabric is just something i liked and it was on sale, so naturally i ordered some :) I participated in a similar swap back in October and got some great stuff back, but i want to make a very large quilt for Jordyn, and id also like to have extras to make for friends, so you can never have too many I-Spy fabrics :) Plus, if you have a lot, then you can pick and chose the fabrics that go into the quilt...i like that the best. Anyways, not much else going on up here on the mountain...except the catkins are finally coming out....dare i say it..."Spring is almost here!!!!" :)
