XLR8R at Elitch Gardens

Here is that video i promised of my daredevil daughter, Jordyn with Justin riding the XLR8R (the highest free falling swing in Colorado...155 feet)

Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park with the Girl Scouts

Our troop decided to spend some of our cookie money on a trip to Elitches over the weekend, and some friends and family decided to join us!
There was a girl scout welcome table at the Ferris wheel, and a few tables set up to do activities for Daisies, Brownies and Juniors.

We checked out one table, but really the kids were just too darn anxious to get on some rides...and after a 2 1/2 hour drive to the park, its no wonder!

Our first ride...the Ferris wheel of course, so we could get a birds-eye view of the park!  Amber took this shot of our group...you can barely see us, but the arrow helps point us out!

After the Ferris wheel, we rode on Hollywood and Vine, but it started to get hot out, so we headed over to Shipwreck Falls and the Disaster Canyon water rides to cool off...and cool off, we did! :)
Shipwreck Falls is a 50 ft water plunge, which creates a ginormous wave that goes over the top of the boat (and everyone in it)...and then as you exit the ride, you have to cross this bridge, to which the next boat that comes along sprays that giant wave over you and their boat.  Its hard to see in this photo, but there is a giant wave coming up over that bridge and soaking all in its path!
Since we were already wet, we decided to go on Disaster Canyon.  This ride has warning signs letting you know you "will get drenched on this ride", which of course, we laughed at, because we were already soaked.  Well...i was wrong!
Notice how dry Robins tank top is in this shot...this ride started out like any other rapid ride...some minor splashing here and there...with a few good splashes on a few turns...
and then we came up on this pretty "water fall" turn, where the water fall was actually disguising the sounds of giant showers of water POURING down all over your path.  I had just enough time to hide my camera and cover my bag before we got completely dowsed!  When i sat up, practically blinded by the water on my glasses, i took these photos...

What a blast...we couldnt stop laughing at how soaked we were!  No wonder people on the ride are unloaded out of view, before the next group gets on...they dont want you to see how wet the folks are when they get off.  Clever!  :)  After the water ride, a lightning storm started to roll in, and a few of the big rides were temporarily closed, so we decided to go have lunch.  Yes, we all ate lunch in very wet clothes!  The timing was perfect though...because once we were done eating, the sun came back out and we were ready to ride!

We hit the Troika, and then the Dragonwing.  Here we are on the Dragonwing...the ride broke down on us, so they made everyone get off, and then got it going again, and we were good to go!  While we were riding this, Justin was signing up to ride the XLR8R with Jordyn.
What is the XLR8R you ask...its the tallest free-fall swing in Colorado...
You are attatched to a cable, and then pulled 155 feet in the air, where a countdown has you pull the cord and you drop 155 feet before swinging back and forth!  YIKES!  Here they are getting suited up, and then they are waiting their turn....Jordyn has that excited scared look on her face!
I have some video to share, so stay tuned!  While we went on this, some of the kids went on the Ghost Blasters ride, and then several of us wanted to enjoy some roller coasters...
We rode the Boomerang, the Sea Dragon and the Spider....and yes, we even went back over to Shipwreck Falls again to get cooled off!  As the sun set over the park we took a break and enjoyed some food....we had the mile high nachos and they were delicious!  The separate carloads broke up at this time to hit one last ride in the park before going home...our group, Justin, Jordyn, Andrea and i, wandered around the arcade to play games and win prizes.  Then on our way out, the girls rode the teacup ride and then we enjoyed the giant flame show at the entrance!  We left the park at exactly 10:00pm, closing time!  Almost 12 full hours of fun at the park!  What a great day!

A Busy Summer Day ~

We had another fabulous summer day today...Andrea has been staying with us for the last few nights, for our trip to Elitches, and because her mom is in the hospital having a baby. (Elitch photos coming soon).  Anyways, we went to the pool for Jordyns swim class, and for some pool fun...had lunch at Culvers, and then went to the hospital to meet Andreas new baby sister....
After our visit with baby Mae, we went to the matinee to see How to Train your Dragon 2! (in 3D)  It was every bit as good as the first one and we loved it!

Then we hit the grocery store before heading home, where we purchased the new Lego Movie, and watched it when we get home.  It was a great day, but im beat!  I think im still recovering from our trip to Elitches on Friday...details coming soon!  Cheers~

Turning 46!

My 46th birthday was on Friday, and it was wonderful!  I slept in, made breakfast for the family (they arent much for cooking), and then spent most of my time relaxing in my garden!  Jordyn snuck up to Grandma Kristi's house in the afternoon and they put together this delicious birthday picnic for me, complete with sandwiches, chips, hummus, crackers and a nice chilled bottle of white wine!  What a wonderful birthday, indeed!  Happy Summer Solstice!

Happy Fathers Day, Justin!

We had perfect weather for Fathers Day last Sunday...so Jordyn and Daddy decided to mow the meadow.  Then Grandma and Grandpa Bruen came over for some BBQ and fishing...alas, it wasnt really a good day to fish, since the river was still too high, but they had fun trying.
Jon Kamm was out for a drive in his fathers kit car, so he stopped by to say hello.  We took that opportunity to steal his car and take it for a spin on the circle...what a fun little car to drive!  The neighbors certainly got a kick out of it too!

Then it was time for dinner...as if any of us had any room for it after all the yummy appetizers...
there was grilled shrimp...and of course, this giant platter of ribeyes...
 YUMMMMMM!
When dinner was over, we enjoyed our first fire of the season in our new fire pit.
Happy Fathers Day, Justin!  You are patient, kind, loving and funny...all the perfect things that make up a great dad!!!

Orienteering ~

The library put together a class for our girl scouts about orienteering, which was taught by Jill and Skid.  Jill and Skid (her dog), work for Search and Rescue, and they taught us some cool stuff about reading a topographical map and a compass.
After the slide show presentation, we went outside to try out our compass skills...
And look...we didnt get lost!  :)
Afterwords, some of us decided to go over to the school playground to let the kids play for a while so the moms could visit.
It was great to catch up with all the moms...it seems like its been forever since we did anything like that.  The kids had fun burying each other in the sand too.

On our way home, Jordyn and i stopped for ice cream!  It was another fabulous summer day!

Little Mermaid

Jordyn has been taking private swim lessons for a few months now and she is really starting to blossom in the pool!  Her instructor, Juli, also coaches a swim team that Jordyn wants to be on, so she is really focused on learning.  Now that school is out, i have started bringing my gear to swim laps while she is in class, and i am loving the workouts too!  Mulberry pool rocks!
