Not So Brave Today ~

~Movie Poster for Brave by Disney-Pixar~

We had big plans today...Jordyn has been talking about getting her ears pierced for over 6 months, so for her 6th birthday (which is in a week), i told her we could go to town to get them pierced.  We headed down the mountain, where we saw all of the fire devastation along Hwy 14 along with the mudslides from the last two days of rain we had...and we drove to the mall.  Christy met up with us and we went to Claires boutique to pick out some earrings.  They marked her ears where the earrings would go...but when the time came...TOTAL MELTDOWN!!!  She completely chickened out!  Im not sure exactly what happened, but she would not have any part of it and kept repeating the words, "ill try again when im older...no no no...ill try again when im older!"  jeesh!  it was a bit of a scene really, and i started to feel like Mommy Dearest for "forcing" her to get her ears pierced...so, without the sparkly little flower earrings and without freshly pierced ears, we left the store!

The day wasnt a total loss though...we all went to see the new Disney movie, Brave in 3D...and it was fantastic!  I loved it!  The characters were hilarious and the graphics were spectacular!  If you havent seen it yet, be sure to see it on the big screen...totally worth it!

Aww - changing her mind is a girls prerogative :-) I took Jess at about age 6 for hers done after months of begging. She was fine - got one done and then threw a wobbler and absolutely refused to have the second. Arghh - took a long time for me and the shop lady to talk her into having the other xxx

Oh poor thing. She obviously forgot about the bit where they stick a sharp needle through your ear until the last moment.... I'm sure when she is a bit older she'll manage it :-)

Don't worry about it. The shop ladies are surely used to this sort of thing and she will get round to it in her own time.

Well it can be a scarey thing to do and she is still young. Sorry to hear about the meltdown, that's not fun for Mom at all. Glad the day was saved with a great movie!!

My 8 yr. old wants hers done but just isn't too sure about the whole thing.
She watched another little girl at Claire's (who also chickened out)and she's never asked again.
I told her I got mine pierced for my 13th birthday. A major milestone for a tween!
Anyways, I told her maybe she could do the same...save it for when she was a little older and definitely knew it was worth the pinch of it all.

Oh, I forgot to mention that before we left Claire's we bought a few really cute clip on earrings. They will do the trick until she's ready for the real thing.

Oh Lisa ... been there! ... done that!

Mel was a little older than that ... like maybe 13 when she decided she wanted pierced ears...and did actually go through with it ... but she neglected to keep up with the proper cleansing routine & she ended up with an infection ... which led to having to remove the earrings ... & basically start again.

Now that she's older ... and understands the consequences of the procedure ... she has had several more piercings done ... three in her ears ... one in her nose and ... yes... one in her belly button (I personally would never go there!)

Oh ... but wait ... now she's been considering tatoos!

She hasn't gotten one yet ... but it seems the newest cool thing to do ... but if she wants to spend her own hard-earned money on it ... who am I to tell her not?

I personally am hoping that she will put this idea on the back-burner ... as she also wants to go to college in the fall ... and all of her resources should be focused on that.

Whatever ... I'll simply respect her wishes & whims (especially if she is paying for it)... she will ultimately have to be responsible for her choices ... I know ... and glad to know that she finally realizes it too. All part of them growing up ... allowing them to make the choices they will.

Step back ... shake your head at it ... go with the flow. Much less personal stress that way.

It might be a good thing that she chikened out ... means she is second-guessing her plan ... & will do it when she's ready.

Hugs ... Marie
