Denise and Teresa, who tied for 1st place! My mom wins every year, she follows all the pre-oscar shows, reads all the celebrity magazines, and tries to see all of the films...so naturally, she has an edge when it comes to filling out her oscar ballot..therefore, my sisters are taking great pride in stealing the oscar from her this year!
If you grow up in Los Angeles, then the Academy Awards are a big deal...folks have Oscar parties, dress up, fill out ballots, and have a blast watching the oscars with friends! Well, every year my sister Denise hosts an Oscar party for the family, and a great time is had by all.
Since im not in California, i usually call a few times to check in and share opinions on gowns, jewelry, fashion flops, etc....it makes me feel like im there with them, and since i dont have tv here, it keeps me informed of the things i cant read about on my computer :) I even filled out a ballot this year, and Im sad to say i came in last place, getting only 8 correct. (what can i say, i only saw three of the movies and they were all childrens movies). Anyways, its a lot of fun...sort of a tradition, and it brightens a dreary Winter day!
And speaking of dreary Winter days...Jordyn and i were in desperate need of a city fix this weekend, so we headed to Denver! We squeezed in all kinds of fun...
The Butterfly Pavilion...which installed their new exhibit last week, was definitely on the list...Jordyn LOVED the zip line feature, and rode it over and over again. Afterwords we stopped by the Barnes and Noble...we both LOVE the bookstore, and spent a long time there.
We shopped at a craft store and picked up a new Scooby Doo coloring book and bug puzzle...and then we headed home for the night (Christys place).
By morning we were ready for more fun, so we went to the movies to see Gnomeo and Juliet...a story about garden gnomes following Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. It was the only kid movie playing, so we gave it a try. It had some fun parts, and Jordyn liked it, but it was definitely a rental! For lunch we dined at the golden arches, complete with play land for extra kid fun. She ran and climbed and rolled and ran! We did some more shopping, which also tired her out, so a nap was obviously in her future! (and mine too). After all that we decided to stay in and order Chinese take out...man, do i miss delivery! Yum!
It was a short visit this time around, i had to work on Sunday morning, so we played outside for a bit and then squeezed in a trip to the Children's Museum. We timed it perfectly, as that place is a madhouse by noon...so once the crowds showed up we headed home.
It was a great weekend, and was just what we needed! We came home to lots of snow waiting for us, but we didnt mind. We had blown off all our cabin fever and we were ready to come home.
Here are some thumbnails Ive been working on to familiarize myself with watercolors...nothing fancy, just practice pieces, but i thought i would share my progress. I also completed a drawing for the Sketchbook Challenge, and just in time i might add. The theme was opposites, and this is what i came up with.
Well, that about catches things up here...i hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!

What a great weekend - though no sewing? Boo hoo!
Sounds like so much fun and just what the doc ordered for a bad case of cabin fever. I LOVE your watercolor. Mercy you are so talented. Can't wait to see more. Hey - did you do any fabric shopping while out shopping?
