5th grade graduation ~

It's been a crazy week of celebrating with the 5th graders, but today was the big one...their 5th grade graduation!!!  It's actually called the 5th grade promotion, but caps to me = graduation!  :)
Here they are all lined up to march in, and this is a shot of Kendra reading her speech to Jordyn about their friendship and her hopes for her future.  Very sweet!
Jordyn received the Symphony award from Mr. Ross.  Each kid earns an award that is related to a candy bar and has a nice sentiment with it.  I loved this part of the ceremony!
Then it was official....the tossing of the caps!!!

We are so proud of all that you have accomplished at Red Feather, Jordyn!  Spelling bee awards, art winner, yearbook cover artist 3 times, fall festival costume winner 3 times, Queen of words 2 years in a row, advanced math, reading and writing, and a genuine friend to all.  You are so incredible, I cant wait to see what you tackle at middle school!  Remember this day, and know that we will always be proud of you!

Love you Sweetheart!  Mom and Dad

5th Graders at Fort Fun ~

Every year the 5th graders get to go on a field trip to celebrate their achievements for the year.  This year they were headed for Fort Fun!
Look at this bunch of clowns...I'm gonna miss these kids!
The kids immediately went on the water rides and got soaked!  They ran all around checking out all the rides, but their favorite ride was the go carts of course!

It wasn't crowded at all, so the kids had a blast!  Once they got off a ride, they turned around and got right back on!  They rode those go carts all day!  Meanwhile, while the kids were playing on the rides, Sharon and I snuck over to the bank and closed out our Girl Scout account.  yeah!  Then we went back to Fort Fun to continue the fun!

What an incredible week this is...lots of great things going on every day!  Bring on Summer!

Wax Museum ~

The kids had their Wax Museum today and it was awesome!  They were supposed to have it on Friday, but the snowstorm bought them a whole weekend to get their costumes and speeches perfected, so the kids rocked it!  The 5th graders picked famous Americans in history, and the 4th graders picked famous Coloradoans in history.
You walked around the "museum" and pushed the "button" by a famous figure, and the button would turn on the "wax figure" and that wax figure would tell you all about themselves.
The kids did a great job, and families and the other classes came to enjoy the exhibit!  Here's Andrea portraying Helen Keller.  She even pretended to be blind...I'm telling you, these kids totally got into character!
Jordyn rocked it as Jackie Robinson!  We borrowed Uncle Lynn's old baseball uniform, which was awesome because it came from the same era as Jackie Robinson, so it worked perfectly!  She also nailed her speech and was one of only about 4 kids that had their speech totally memorized!  Way to go kiddo...I was sooo proud!!!  Here are a few more of my favorites...
Tariq was dressed as Ben Franklin and he looked fabulous!
Kaisen also looked great as Paul Revere!
And lets not forget Davy Crocket by Blake!
What a great activity!  Mr. Ross introduced this to the school when he started here, and its one of my favorite things!  I will miss this next year when I leave!

Snow Day Two ~

By Thursday evening the school decided to call another snow day, and its a good thing they did...we ended up with a total of just over two feet of snow!  All night on Thursday night, I had the alarm clock going off every couple of hours to go outside and bang the snow off our awning outside so it wouldn't collapse.
We lost about 15 trees total all over the property, 7 of which were in the meadow along the ditch...and the rest out on the island...but man, what a view!

 Kato, however, was not amused!
Only 5 days of school left!!!

SNOW DAY!!!

With the snowstorm rolling in on Wednesday night, the school called a snow day for Thursday...and thank goodness...it was really coming down all night and all day with no signs of stopping.  Still, with only 7 days of school left, it seemed weird to have a day off.  The kids were ready for it though...as were the teachers!  Hooray for snow days!

Muffaletta Time ~

I can't stop thinking about those super yummy sandwiches we got in New Orleans...the Muffalettas...so naturally when I got home, I had to make them for the family!  They love them!  I think we'll make them often!  P.S. They are better if you put the olive spread on the top and the bottom and then let them sit for a bit to soak into the bread (yeah, right....good luck with that) We totally gobbled these up quick :)   Meanwhile Kato and Stitch are happily snoozing away in the bedroom!  I love their friendship...Kitten follows Kato everywhere!

All School Field Trip ~ Denver Museum of Nature and Science

My last field trip with the preschoolers...it was sort of sad, but we had a great time!  Naturally one of the kiddos had to make my trip extra special by throwing up on the bus!  Good times!
Justin joined us at the museum, so he got to hang out with Jordyn while I worked with the preschoolers.  When it was time for our bus to head back, Sharon rode home with the preschoolers, while Justin, Jordyn and I stayed behind and enjoyed the rest of the museum.

The Vikings exhibit was on tour there, which was awesome!  This ship excavation was one of my favorite parts to the whole exhibit...
from the way they dug up the nails, they were able to determine what shape the ship was.  Naturally the wood was all rotted away, so by keeping track of where each nail was dug up they were able to put together this cool display.
And of course all the jewelry was amazing too!

Another fabulous field trip with Red Feather Lakes, and sadly our last one!
This little red head will be moving on to middle school...if she can survive the wolves :)
