Spring Rolls and reptile rescue ~

Jordyn and Justin took the little box turtle to the Colorado reptile rescue yesterday...Jordyn was sad to see him go, but happy to see he has a great place to live with lots of fellow turtle buddies to keep company with.  Apparently turtles cant survive when released into the wild after living in captivity, they go on a "death march"...where they just walk and walk and walk trying to get back to their home...they dont stop to eat or anything, so they end up dying searching for home. How sad...i cant believe someone just dumped him in the canyon...im soooo glad he was rescued though...way to go Justin!
Meanwhile, I've been enjoying the weekend before preschool starts!  Trying to catch up on some projects, quilting, blogging, scrapbooking, cleaning and trying a few new recipes!  I absolutely LOVE spring rolls and have always wanted to try making them....so i attempted them today, and they turned out rather good!  I have some different veggies I'd like to try adding next time...and i need to work on my wrapping skills, but the family seemed to like them, so yeah!  By the way...those two sauces mixed together are the bomb!  :)

Cranky Box Turtle ~

This ornate box turtle was in the middle of the road at stove prairie landing a few nights ago and Justin almost ran him over before he realized what it was and had to center his tires over him so as not to crush him. Justin decided to bring him home so he wouldnt get run over. He made some calls to a Colorado reptile rescue, and they told us that is definitely NOT part of his natural habitat to be up that high...so he probably got dumped. No wonder hes soooo cranky (tried to bite Justin a few times already) Anyways, he is living in Justins office for now, and we are trying to figure out what to do with him...Naturally Jordyn wants to keep him...but if the rescue wants to take him, we may send him that way. Ah, the mountain life!

Denver, Spidey and Doctor Who ~

Last weekend Jordyn and i went down to Denver for a visit!  I did a lot of driving that day...routine mammogram in town (results were normal...yeah!), then back up the canyon to pick up Jordyn, then back down the mountain to head off to Denver in rush hour traffic, ugh...so i was pretty wiped out when we got there!  Christy was awesome though, and had Chinese food delivered minutes after we arrived, and martini fixins' ready to go!  YES!
The next day we went to a new store by Christy's house to see if they still had these Tardis bookshelves.  Jordyn has turned into quite the Doctor Who fan, so i knew she would love one for her room!  What she didnt know, was that the premier episode of the new season with the new doctor would be airing that evening, and since we dont have regular television, this would be a quite a treat!

We drove the Tardis home and then went shopping for Aidens birthday present.  Christy took this cute picture of Jordyn at Starbucks wearing her new Rainbow Dash necklace...she looks so grown up here.
Next it was off to Aunt Gwens for the big Spidey birthday party!  Kelly, who just had a baby a week prior, somehow found time to make this super cute cake for Aiden...way to go Kelly!

Naturally, there was lots of fun had by all!  Alex showed off his flips in the front yard, while Chad swung his girls around on the tire swing!

Gwen enjoyed time with her new Great Grandson, Hunter...one week old and look how big he is!  He was born weighing over 9 pounds, the little chunk!  :)
Jordyn and Devyn climbed the apple tree and collected a bunch of apples (which i forgot to bring home for pies)  :(
Then it was time for presents!  This guy is all about super heroes and ninja turtles...who knew the ninja turtles would make a come back!?!
Uncle Matthew showed him how to suit up like a proper elf and bow hunt, while the girls patiently waited for their turns.  Then it was time to go...the Doctor was calling :)  I knew Jordyn would be upset to leave early, but when i told her the surprise that we had to get home to see the new episode of Doctor Who...she excitedly grabbed all her goody bag stuff, said quick goodbyes and ran out to the car!  She was psyched!!!
We picked up Mexican take-out on our way home and got home with plenty of time to watch the pre-show fun!  Then it was time for the Doctor...

We all enjoyed the show and had a blast!
The next day we did some shopping at the teacher store, Beyond the Blackboard for my classroom, and then of course, Barnes and Nobles for some new books (Jordyn and I both had gift cards to spend).  I love that my daughter loves to read...this is always one of our favorite stops when we are visiting Christy!  But then it was time to head home...
so we loaded up our tardis...our books...and any other goodies we had and headed back up the mountain.  What a wonderful time we had...thanks Christy for always being the best host ever!  Love Ya!
side note:  While in Denver, Justin informed me that he was busy working in the shop...and when he came back into the house, he saw the ass end of a bear cub leaving through our now broken screen door! Momma bear and baby bear had an absolute field day in our pantry! Apparently he and momma bear are big fans of Teddy grahams, dried berries, peanuts, cereal, donuts, bread (a whole loaf), cat food, and angry bird fruit snacks. (they did not like the Ramen noodles though). Im not sure if they left because they were full, or because Justin spooked them when he came home...but i think its time to leave the doors closed for the season! Sooooo glad i wasnt at home to clean up the mess...or be surprised by the bear!

Open House

Back to School night was last Thursday, and we had a huge turn out!  Lots of new families coming to our school, and lots of new families joining us in preschool!  I got a lot of compliments on this gorgeous purple scarf i received as a troop leader gift from one of the parents...it was my first time wearing it and i just love it!  Thanks Amber!  Our theme for the school year is "moose", so i had to take a selfie of Ms. Sharon and i wearing these cute moose hats.  The fact that baby May is in the photo makes it even better!  Looks like its going to be another great school year!

Back To School...3rd Grade!

First Day of School was today! Look at my grown-up 3rd grader!  Jordyn wore a new outfit from Grandma Barbara, her Hello Kitty necklace from Aunt Denise, and of course her new bedazzled crocs from mom and dad!  Dont forget lunchbox, complete with My Little Pony on it, and shes ready for her day!

Naturally we had to take our traditional photo by classroom 1...i posted "the first 5 years" picture last year, and thought i would share it again.  Its fun to watch her grow!
And this is her classroom...a little smaller than last year, but should be a fun bunch!
And here is the latest update on that yard project of ours, that kept us up most of the night before school!  whew!  Ill be soooo glad when its over!  :)
Welcome Back to School Jordyn!!!

End of Summer ~

Sadly, our Summer is coming to a close, and Jordyn starts school on Tuesday.  The last few weeks of Summer have been very relaxing (for Jordyn, that is), lots of sleeping in, watching Doctor Who, reading Harry Potter, playing on her tablet, swinging on the rope swing, playing with her ponies and dolls, and general lazy days!  She did help our neighbor, Marcy, pick chokecherries for jam and cordials this week (i think she ate most of them though).

After getting a haircut from our friend next door, Marc Anthony, she had some fun with another favorite neighbor of ours, Rocky!  Pizza, Fireball (cinnamon whiskey) and water fights took place the night before school...what a great way to end the season!  Thanks for the goodies Rocky!  :)

Meanwhile, i worked a bunch of shifts at the resort, and then did my teacher conferences last week preparing for the new school year, while Justin worked on some gigantic projects around the house!

I expect we'll still have some wonderful summer days, but with school starting on Tuesday, Summer for us, is officially over.  Jordyn could not be more thrilled and is ready for school...i, of course, could use another month :)  And in quilting news, im participating in the Doll Swap on about.com again.  I havent made a miniature quilt in a while so i figured it was about time!  Here is a teaser for the quilt im working on.  Cheers!
