The architecture is beautiful and there are wonderful little shops everywhere!
Mom treated each of us to an ornament in this gift shop...they had hundreds of cute ornaments to choose from, and hilariously enough, we all picked the same exact ones! Two little Danish kids kissing, and wooden shoes that had Solvang painted on them. Thanks mom! Jordyn picked out a little red yarn witch and a ceramic windmill magnet for the fridge too.
Justin and Jordyn couldnt wait to check out this bakery...
TJ decided to check it out as well!
Naturally they did not come out empty handed...and Jordyn picked out this giant custard puff!
Denise looked up restaurants for us to check out, while James mapped out our trip and looked up Solvang history. It was cute to see him using his phone for educational purposes! I wish more kids did that! :)
We decided to eat at the Solvang Restaurant...known for its famous Aebleskivers (prounounced able-skeevers).
You could order aebleskivers off the menu in the restaurant, or if you were walking by, you could purchase them off the street through this little window they have!
I was so fascinated with them, that i decided to buy a book and a special aebleskiver skillet so that i could make these at home! I cant wait to give it a try!
Our next stop...the chocolate shop!
We had a celebrity siting while in Solvang, and Denise casually took this photo of "James" to capture them. Joel Madden, Nichole Richies husband, was sitting on this bench waiting for her...to which she showed up later hidden under a big hat and poncho. I would have walked right by them not even noticing or recognizing them, but Denise and TJ were all over it :)
Heres a shot of Jordyn still trying to finish her custard puff while the rest of us keep shopping. I wandered into the Vin Haus to check out their wines...there are a lot of wineries in the Santa Ynes Valley, so they had a great selection along with delicious cheeses and other unique kitchen gadgets. I purchased two bottles of white wines, and a Prima Donna Danish cheese that was absolutely fabulous!
On our way back to the car we decided to stop in to the Presidio wine tasting room. Everyone was pretty exhausted by now, but i really wanted to do some wine tasting while i was there, and since the sign on the door read, children and dogs welcome, we figured this was the place :) Denise was game to try some with me, so we ordered two wine tasting rounds and she hit the reds while i hit the whites. We shared them with TJ and Justin too, so we all ended up enjoying the tasting!
Im not usually a fan of Rose's but i really liked theirs, so i purchased a bottle and Denise purchased their Pinot (which was also great).
After the wine tasting we headed home, where we played games for hours at the table...laughing and having fun!
