High Tea at the Brown Palace ~

We had an absolutely fabulous time at the Brown Palace on Sunday!  My cousin has always wanted to do tea there for her birthday, but it has never come about...so this year she made reservations, and im soooo glad she did!  Im not a fancy-smancy kind of gal, but i have always wanted to go to the Brown Palace, so i was excited to check it out!  Jen heard about the fun and decided to join us, which was great, because we finally finished her quilt :)
She cried before she ever even took it out of the bag.  Her favorite color is red, so naturally she loves it.  We started this for her when she was in the hospital after her accident, but only recently got around to finishing it  :)  We love ya Jen!
The Brown Palace was built in 1892,  and is one of the first atrium-style hotels ever built.  Christy's Grandparents honeymooned there in the late 1920's, and they said it was the tallest building in Denver at the time.  Apparently they drove out from Nebraska during a snow storm, and the family never heard from them and assumed they died on the trip over, so they were surprised to see them when they arrived home 2 weeks later.
Jordyn was thrilled at the idea of a "real" tea party!  She dressed up in her new spring dress and shiny black shoes and was quite the little lady.

The architecture of this building was gorgeous, and no matter where you looked, there was something interesting to see...like this stained glass ceiling, which brought in all kinds of natural light.
Time for tea...look how excited Jordyn is to be getting her first fancy cup of tea...
and lets not forget the sandwiches and desserts...
There were scones and imported Devonshire Cream (yum), cucumber sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, egg salad in pastries, and of course a full dessert plate on top.
 and of course, champagne!

As you can see, Jordyn and i both really liked that Devonshire Cream!  Her scone is smothered in it, as was mine below (but i ate it all off )   :)

Im not much of a dessert person, but i did try two things...the truffle and the cheesecake.  The truffle was very rich, and delicious, and Jordyns favorite was the cheesecake...in fact, she wanted to take a photo of her cheesecake, so here it is.....
she loved that it was topped off with real gold :)
After tea, we decided to take a stroll through the hotel...naturally we had to walk up all these gorgeous stairs to get to the top...and the view was just as stunning from above as it was from below!
There's our big round table in the bottom right hand corner...in fact, you can see Gwen and Christy still sitting at the table.

Happy early Birthday Christy!  And thank you for treating us all to a wonderful memory we will always cherish!  We love you!
After tea we went to the O'keefe exhibit at the Denver Art Museum.
Since we couldnt take photos inside the exhibit, i took a picture of Jordyn by the elevator ad for the show...this was her favorite piece in the exhibit.  (a river scene, just like our backyard...why does that not surprise me :)
After the museum, we all went to our favorite pub for a cocktail, and then headed home. (to Christys that is).  There was talk of a snowstorm coming, so we went to Barnes & Noble to get a good book to curl up with, and Jordyn picked out a new chapter book series called Magic Kitten.   It was an incredible day!

Girl Scouts and Daddy Canvas ~

We had a girl scout meeting on Wednesday, and the girls did more work on their Mother's Day gifts.
They did the painted hand prints at the sleepover, and today they had to sew two buttons on their piece.
This required lots of help, so we were glad to have lots of moms on hand for this...they just pretended they didnt know what it was they were helping with :)

And this is what the finished product will look like...i used Jordyns as an example, but i still have to sew borders onto all of the other pieces, so wish me luck...we've got a busy next two months, so i am running to keep up with everything!
Meanwhile, Jordyn wanted to do a little painting, so she used daddy as a canvas, and whala!
Blue back art by Jordyn!

More Soccer Fun ~

The Pirates tied their second game last Saturday, 1 - 1, another fun and exciting game!
Jordyn almost scored a few times, but she spent most of the game on defense, and she did a great job back there too!
Here they are after they scored a goal...i love this shot!
and heres a shot of Jordyn with her coach :)
and of course, the rest of her fan club...Great Grandma Anita...
 and her Godmother, Christy!
Thanks for taking all these photos Christy...its hard to coach the game and take photos at the same time, so i appreciate it!  You got some great shots!

A Cozy Easter at the Black Bear Cabin ~

Jordyn woke us up around 7:30 to see if the Easter bunny stopped by!  Well, it looks like her carrot bribe worked...there was candy, a bouncy frog, a tick tac toe game, more candy, some Friends Legos, a chocolate bunny, more little games, and of course, more candy!  But enough about that...lets hunt for eggs.....

Jordyn channels Darth Vader, and uses her jedi mind power to choke Mommy, while clutching her Storm Trooper bunny :)  What a ham!
Looks like the Easter bunny stashed among the chocolates, a few Sacajawea coins in the eggs!
PEEPS!!!
Time to head outside to look for more eggs...Trash and Fuzzy came out to help...

What a beautiful day for an egg hunt!  Our neighbor, Mena stopped by to drop off a little basket...thanks Mena!  Then Jordyn loaded up a bag of eggs and delivered them to grandma and grandpa bear, Aunt LeAnn, and of course Mena and Gerry.  For dinner we enjoyed steaks up at Leanns house with potato salad and asparagus....yum!  Oh, and dont forget a few bloody marys!  Happy Easter Everyone!

Fish, Worms, Eggs and Paint ~

I got a little out of order and forgot to include last Thursdays colorful fun!  The art teacher was planning on doing Gyotaku and wanted to know if i was interested in helping out....uh, YEAH! :)  Ive always wanted to try fish printing, so naturally i said yes!
There were three to choose from...a tilapia, a trout or a crab, and the kids had fun with all of them!
They made several prints, but here is an example of one that i thought came out really cool!  I also made one myself, and plan to print it for the house...it includes some sparkly glitter with lots of teals and purples.
After the Gyotaku lesson, the kids in the K-1 class got to create a worm obstacle course.  Im telling you, they do the coolest stuff at Jordyns school...i dont remember doing anything quite this fun when i was a kid.  :)

When we got home it was time to color Easter eggs.  I was wiped out, so daddy pretty much ran the show here!
They dyed lots of eggs, and then decorated them with stickers, markers, and even some afros...
 Happy Easter Everyone!

First Game of the Season ~

Saturday was our first game of the season...and what a game it was!!!
There are several new players on our team, so they were all excited to get on the field for a real game.  They played soooo well...what a difference the age makes from last year to this year...the kids were much more aggressive and in tune with the game, and it was a blast to watch!
Jordyn almost scored a goal in the beginning of the game, and then i put her in full back for a while, and she was great at defense too.  In fact, all the girls played well up front and in back.  By half time we were down 2-0...here is Jordyn and Daddy discussing the game...
But then it was back on the field, and the girls had renewed energy and finally scored their first goal!  For the girls playing for their first time, this was especially thrilling...but we were all pretty excited, parents and kids alike, and there was lots of cheering!
Jordyn and Trina, playing defense, give each other a high five after their teammates scored a goal!

In the last quarter, we scored a second goal and the game was tied 2-2.  One of our girls was taking the ball down the field, in what looked like another sure goal, but the whistle blew and the game was over.  The girls were soooooo excited to tie, and so was i!  What a great way to start off the season for both teams...no one lost, and no one won....just an super fun game day on the field!
GO, Pirates GO!  ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!  oh, and a special HUGE THANK YOU goes out to my cousin Christy, who took all these photos for me, while i was busy coaching the team!  You are Awesome Christy!  :)
When we got home, Jordyn decided to put on a little Easter show.  She went up stairs, dressed herself in this little costume, painted her face up, and created a little stage.  She even left out some carrots to bribe the Easter bunny that night :) What a great day!
